The idea of having your wedding abroad is the ultimate in romance. Your dream wedding abroad might be a beach wedding with the sound of the ocean and sand between your toes or a beautiful chateau in the heart of the French countryside. Whatever your dream location is there will be different things to consider when planning your destination wedding.
What style dress do I wear?
The main things to consider when choosing your wedding dress are:
- Sand and breeze; if a beach wedding
- Functionality without sacrificing style
Depending on the location of your wedding, you will need to consider the weather. Will there be extremely hot temperatures or may be the complete opposite. Considering the temperature will give you a starting point for the style of wedding dress to consider. This doesn’t mean you will need to sacrifice your favourite style; you will just need to consider the fabric and weight of the dress….. and we have packed ballgowns for beach weddings!!
The following fabrics are perfect for a destination wedding:
A sheath style, slim A-line, gentle fit and flare, soft mermaid or tea length are all perfect styles of wedding dress for a destination wedding. Beautiful detail to the dress will add to the style, such as a statement back, low back with a back necklace or just subtle beading to the dress which will glisten in the sunshine.
Depending on the location of your wedding, you might also want to consider the length of the train on your dress.
Veil or No Veil?
This is really down to personal preference but if you are getting married on a beach, you might want to think about a possible sea breeze. You don’t want your partner to be smothered with your veil just as they are about to say “I do”! On the other hand, think of the fabulous veil photos! (and not just of your other half smothered with a veil!)
Seriously though, veils are quite often the finishing touch to your chosen gown and make you feel like a bride.
There are so many different styles of veil to choose from, if you have decided you would like to wear a veil, it’s all about choosing a veil to suit the style of dress, one you feel comfortable wearing and most importantly a veil which makes your look feel complete.
This too would be down to personal preference. Consider though temperature; will your feet swell if warm making wearing heels uncomfortable or sand if getting married on a beach. High heels could be difficult if getting married on a beach unless some kind of walkway or carpet has been laid down for the ceremony.
Flats, sandals or flip flops decorated with lace and sparkle may be a good option to consider.
Comfort is key, but if you want to wear heels, there is always the option of flats or flip flops for later in the day!
Getting your dress to the wedding
We would highly recommend taking your wedding dress as hand luggage on your flight.
Most airlines will offer advice on this and the size of hand luggage you can take. At Love Lace we have a selection of travel cases available and we will pack your dress for you ready for your flight, with advice on what to do when you unpack your dress.
There may be many different factors to consider when planning your wedding abroad but as long as you are flexible in your thinking your will have a stress-free destination wedding to remember. You can only control so much, just go with the flow and enjoy every minute.
